Gardens....

A recent garden project we completed was for a friend who lost both parents within months of each other and was faced with selling and closing up her family home.  She needed a place that would remind her of home.  So we asked her to journal, before our first design meeting, feelings and memories that spoke to her about her home place and her parents.  Later she would tell us this was such a healing process.  We walked away from the first meeting knowing we would incorporte the sounds of a brook, the texture of a rocks cool surface, her mothers favorite hymn and wood and tools taken from her fathers barn.  We turned a tiny garden space measuring no more than 16' x 13'  of weeds into a beautiful wildlife sanctuary with a entrance, path, bird feeding station and bird bath.  We placed a bench in the sanctuary made from her father's barnwood and we commissioned a ceramic tile artist to create a mosaic with her mothers favorite hymn to hang on the garden wall.  Our client was so pleased she also retained our services to build a small horseshoe shaped alcove of boulders surrounding a firepit where her family could share marshmellow roasts and make memories for her girls.
